Milton Joseph Mapes, 70, of Biloxi died Wednesday, November 28, 2007 in Gulfport after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Waterville, Kansas. He graduated from Belle Plaine High in Belle Plaine, Iowa and attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Milton worked at Keesler AFB as a civilian instructor and retired after 36 years as a Supervisory Training Specialist. Milton was known as a dedicated and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His big love was in McHenry-his ten acre farm. He was known as "Farmer Brown" by his family and neighbors. He enjoyed watching crops grow, then shared the rewards.
Preceded in death by parents, Jesse and Esther Mapes also by four special brothers-in-law, James Netterville, Jay Waller, Ken Cripps and Johnny Murdock.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Sandy) Mapes, a daughter, Belinda (Rick) Lackaye of Waterloo, SC; a son, Greg of Biloxi; a granddaughter, Candice Lackaye and a great-grandson, Jordan Carter.
In lieu of flowers the family would prefer donations to St. Vincent de Paul, Our Lady of Fatima Church, Biloxi, MS.

Visitation is Sunday, December 2, 2007, 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Service will be Monday, December 3, 2007 at 10:00 am. Both will be held at Pass Road Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes. Burial will be in Floral Hills.
