With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mitchell Damon Hughes, age 60, of Gulfport, MS, who unexpectedly passed away in Gulfport on October 3, 2023.
Mitchell was born in Jackson, MS, on December 27, 1962, to Mimi Krebs and Arvil Hughes. He was a diligent professional and worked for over 35 years on the Gulf Coast as a Mechanical Designer.
Outside of his professional life, Mitchell relished spending time with his daughters and grandchildren and embraced helping his neighbors when they needed him. He enjoyed being outdoors and any opportunity to be on or near the water going fishing, hiking, or camping. He also had a soft spot for his faithful four-legged companion, Trigger, and often volunteered for the animal shelter as a pet foster. Blessed with the inherent Southern storytelling gift, Mitchell could make us laugh so hard we'd cry, listening to his passionate rhetoric. His family and friends will truly miss him.
Mitchell was preceded in death by his mother, Mimi Krebs; grandparents, Juanita & Charles Jennyss; and Ida & James Hughes.
He is survived by his ex-wife, Carrie Sumrall; daughters, Patricia Hughes-Johnson (Blake Johnson) and Emily Hughes-Foret; five grandchildren, Kaden Chancellor, Brycen Shamblin, Sophia Shamblin, Cale Foret, and Myer Foret; sisters, Kathy Shaughnessy and Shannon Grochowski; and brother, Rusty Hughes.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 21st beginning at 1 pm, followed by a service at 2 pm at The Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home on Howard Avenue in Biloxi.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mitchell’s honor to the Harrison County Animal Shelter.
Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mitchell Damon Hughes.
