Mrs. Gloria "Granny" Derouen Steinwinder

Mrs. Gloria "Granny" Derouen Steinwinder, age 69, died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday, October 3, 2006, in Gulfport after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was a native and life time resident of Biloxi. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. She retired from AAFES of Keesler AFB after 23 years of service. She was a member of the D'Iberville Booster Club. Gloria was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Most of all, she enjoyed her grandchildren and spent many hours at sporting events and dance recitals. She touched many people’s lives and was affectionately know as "Granny" by everyone who knew and loved her. She also enjoyed sewing, painting, and doing many different crafts. She was especially know for her quillows, and decorated Mardi Gras attire that was worn by many. Granny was very strong and never gave up. The family wishes to thank her many friends and neighbors for their comfort, support and prayers during her illness. Special thanks to Doctor Davidson and staff, the 3rd floor Oncology nurses and staff of Memorial Hospital of Gulfport for their compassionate care and her chemo buddy, Junie Desport and wife Angie. Mrs. Steinwinder was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Derouen; father, L. J. Derouen; baby daughter Steinwinder; brother, L. J. Derouen, Jr.; mother-in-law, Rita Steinwinder; and father-in-law, Freddie Fritz Steinwinder, Sr. Mrs. Steinwinder is survived by her husband of 51 years, Freddie Fritz Steinwinder, Jr; daughter, Vonda Steinwinder Kovacevich and husband Jeffrey of D'Iberville; two sons, Freddie Steinwinder III and wife Cheryl of Biloxi and Brian Steinwinder and wife Kathy of Rifle, Colorado; twelve grandchildren, Julie Steinwinder Rossi and husband Tony, Freddie IV, Brian Jr., Daniel, Christopher, Courtney, Kai, Blake and Rachel Steinwinder, Jeffrey II, Brandee and Britnee Kovacevich; three great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Devyn Rossi and Madison Steinwinder; brother, Rodney Derouen, Sr. and wife Betty; brother-in-law, Harry Steinwinder; two sisters-in-law, Jerri Derouen and Rose Steinwinder Maier; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved pets, Angel, Milo and Otis. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Retired Priests Home of Our Lady of Fatima Parish 2090 Pass Road, Biloxi, MS 39531. Visitation will be on Thursday, October 5, 2006 from 5:00 until 8:00pm with a Rosary at 7:00pm all at the Pass Road Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes. A Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, October 6, 2006 at 9:00am at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church where friends may visit from 8:30am until service time. Burial will be in Biloxi City Cemetery.
