Myrlene Cumbest Shemper, 85, of Biloxi, MS died peacefully in her sleep Friday, November 25, 2016 in Ocean Springs, MS.
Mrs. Shemper was a native of Wade, MS and a resident of Biloxi for over 65 years. She was a member of Caswell Springs UMC in Wade. Mrs. Shemper, along with her husband Buddy Shemper, founded Shemper Seafood Company in Biloxi in 1954.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Shemper; her daughter, Lynn Michelle Shemper; and her parents, Mack and Florrie Cumbest.
Mrs. Shemper’s survivors include her daughter, Leah (Andy) Welter; her sons, Gary (Vanna) Shemper and Jeffrey Shemper; her sisters, Neva Dryden, Joan (Tommy) Smith, Gail (Benny) Lassiter and Faye (Bill) Sullivan; her grandchildren, Jeff Shemper, Maury Shemper, Brandon Shemper, Derek Shemper, Courtney Shemper, Drew Welter and Mallory Welter; and her great-grandchildren, Alex and Alli Shemper.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to Mrs. Shemper’s caregiver and friend, Gwen Varney.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to Caswell Springs UMC or to the charity of one’s choice.
Funeral Services will be held at Caswell Springs UMC in Wade, MS at 11:00 am on Monday, November 28, 2016. Friends may visit from 10:00 am until service time. A 3:00 pm graveside service will follow at Biloxi City Cemetery.
The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
