Nancy Jane Fobes, 81, of Biloxi, Miss., passed away on October 20, 2024, in Biloxi, after a valiant battle with cancer. Originally from Dacusville, S.C., Nancy was a 47-year resident of the Mississippi Coast, where she retired from a long and successful career in travel and tourism as hotel/motel executive and officer of several local and state tourism associations. An exuberant ambassador and golf enthusiast, she sold thousands of golf packages to snowbirds over many years and travels, and she was lovingly featured in Golf Digest Magazine as the "Golf Gal from Biloxi," for her prowess on the links and her warm approach to customer service.
As a community volunteer, she showed support in multiple ways, from BHS Band Boosters to nonprofit board involvement, planning charity golf tournaments, and supporting underserved youth. For her efforts, she was awarded Boys & Girls Clubs Volunteer of Year, among other honors. She was a 29-year member of the Rotary Club of Edgewater, in which she served faithfully as a project volunteer, multiple Paul Harris Fellow, and as treasurer for half of those years.
Nancy was a devoted friend to many and an avid animal lover. Her interests were numerous over the years, including piano, needlework, ceramics, canning, candle making, fishing, league bowling, and even taking flying lessons in the 1960s. Being an Air Force spouse for 30 years enabled her to expand her horizons and exposure to various cultures across the country. She made music a part of the family home, and, proudly supporting the musical endeavors of her children, whose combined experiences included band, orchestra, choir, and the U.S. Air Force's talent review, Tops in Blue.
She was able to travel to some interesting and extreme places in the U.S., and to enjoy many adventures along the way; trying new things was important to her. But so too, were her friends throughout her life, to whom she remained grateful for their love and support and often reminisced, as many had passed before her. Most people knew Nancy for her wit, but everyone knew that her definitive calling cards in life were her dogs, all things purple, and Elvis Presley.
Nancy is survived by a daughter, Teresa Johnston (husband Andrew); son Tim Fobes (wife Tina); son Andy Fobes; four grandchildren, Christina Fullenkamp, Johnathon Fullenkamp, Kyle Casey, and Victoria Casey; sister, Martha J. Evatt, of Greenville, S.C., one niece and three nephews; as well as her dear cousins, Shelby Jean Shirley and Mary Jane Frechette, of North Berwick, Maine. She is preceded in death by former husband, Alfred W. Fobes; daughter, Tamie Casey; father, A.D. Moore; mother, Helen Hall Moore Watson; and stepfather, William Watson.
There will be no services, as her family will be showing respects privately.
Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Nancy Jane Fobes.
