Nancy Jane McKenzie

Nancy Jane McKenzie, age 76 of Pass Christian MS., passed away Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011, in Gulfport, MS. Ms. McKenzie was born in the Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C., on January 10th, 1935. Ms. McKenzie worked as a bookkeeper for several years at Realty Management in Pass Christian and previously worked for her son at Thomason Restaurant’s, Inc. in Grants Pass, Oregon. Most recently she was employed at Dad’s Super Pawn in Gulfport. During her leisure time, she loved solving crossword puzzles, playing dominoes with friends and reading a good book. Reading was her passion, but most of all she loved spending time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed her visits to Oregon where she spent time with her two sons, daughters in law and grandchildren. She also looked forward to their visits to her home in Mississippi. Nancy loved family gatherings of all occasions. Our Thanksgiving/Saints party was her last, but one of the most memorable, as she proudly wore her Saints jersey in support of her favorite football team. She was very much loved and will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her mother, Julia R. Byais Woods, her father, Albert H. Woods Sr. and her loving sister, Bobbie Hilton. Survivors include her two sons, Jim Thomason and his wife, Diana of Grants Pass, Oregon and David Thomason and his wife, Doneta of Grants Pass, Oregon. She had five grandchildren; Danae Thomason of Los Angeles, California; David Thomason, Jr., Jimmy Thomason, Ray Thomason and Donnie Jane Thomason all of Grants Pass, Oregon. She had three brothers; Albert “Buddy” Woods and his wife Astrida of Sag Harbor, New York, Burt Woods and his wife Nancy of Collins, MS. and Raymond Woods and his wife Shannon of Issaquah, Washington. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Survivors also include long term companion Vernon Garriga along with his children; Sharon Briggs (Jay) Richmond, VA, Kim Riley (Kevin) Long Beach, MS, Gina Sutherlin (Mike) Pass Christian, MS, Joey Garriga (Lynette) Pass Christian, MS and Lynne Montella (Shawn) Long Beach; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren that knew and loved her as their “Nana”. A service will be held at 5:30pm on Monday, February 7th 2011 at Bradford O’Keefe, 1726 15th St., Gulport. Visitation will follow from 6pm – 9pm.
