Nell Breyer Watts

Nell Breyer Watts, 85, of Ocean Springs, died April 11, 2010, at her daughter’s home. Nell was born in Meridian, MS. on May 23, 1924. She graduated from Meridian High School in 1941 where she was a member of the Dusty sorority and a Demolay Sweetheart. She went to MSCW, know as the “W’ in Columbus, Mississippi, and graduated in 1945. While at MSCW, Nell was a member of the Black List Social Club and a school Beauty. She moved to the Gulf Coast 40 years ago and was known as “Mimi” to her grandchildren. She was a secretary, working for several attorneys and doctors in Pascagoula, and retired from the Stephens Center in 1986. She then moved to the Villa Maria in Ocean Springs and was blessed to have many friends there. Nell was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph S. Breyer and Lucille Camp Breyer, brothers Jack Breyer (Lula George), Brig. Gen . Joseph Breyer (Helen) and Alex Breyer, who died over the English Channel during WWII in 1945, sister Fay Breyer Leigh (Beverly M. Leigh, Jr.), and daughter Fay Williams Adams. Nell is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Jude Williams Howell and Stephen M. Howell of Ocean Springs, MS, and Lucy Williams Martin and Doug Martin of Brunswick, ME. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson. Mimi will be missed by all who knew her, and was a true 'Southern Belle'. Pallbearers will be Stephen M. Howell Sr., Howell P. Hopper Jr. of Nashville, TN., Daniel Parker of D'Iberville, MS., Stephen M. Howell Jr. of Houston, TX., Dan Clawson of Adamsville AL. and honorary pallbearer, Doug Martin of Brunswick, ME. Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, from 6 PM - 8 PM, at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. On Thursday, April 15, 2010, there will be a 10 AM chapel service in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Crestlawn Memorial Park.
