Nell Kirschenbaum Bishop, 65, of Biloxi, MS passed away on March 1, 2008 in Biloxi. She was born on December 17, 1942 in Morganfield, KY. She grew up in Vicksburg, MS and maintained a lifelong connection to the city with family and friends. Ms. Bishop graduated from Mississippi College with a degree in Mathematics and then went to Delta State University where she received a Masters Degree in Education. Ms. Bishop moved to Biloxi in 1976 and taught Mathematics at Biloxi High School until 1984. From 1985 until 1997 Ms. Bishop was an independent Education Consultant. In 1993, Ms. Bishop began teaching Mathematics at the University of Southern Mississippi at the Gulf Coast Campus. She retired from USMGC in 2005. Ms. Bishop was very involved in the Gulf Coast Community. She was a member of the City of Biloxi Library Board, an active member of the Friends of the Libraries group, and a longtime member of the Unit 180 Bridge Club where she previously held a board position and the position of Secretary. Ms. Bishop was a member of the National Council Teachers of Mathematics, the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics and Phi Delta Kappa. Survivors include her daughters, Gretchen Brochard of Hurley, MS, married to Glen; Amanda McDonald, married to David, currently stationed in Tokyo, Japan at Yokota AFB; her brothers, Neil Kirschenbaum of Rayville, LA, married to Hassie, Richard Kirschenbaum of Vicksburg, MS; sister-in-law, Carol Y. Kirschenbaum of Daphne, AL; grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Nicole and Garrett Brochard and Taylor McDonald. The family has request that no flowers be sent. In lieu of flowers they request that donations in Nell's honor be sent to: The Human Society of South Mississippi, 2615 25th Ave., Gulfport, MS 39501 or The Friends of the Biloxi Library. The family will receive friends at the Pass Road Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Biloxi on Thursday, March 6, 2008 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.
