Nina Marie Gaines Brown (aka “9-uh”) Nina Marie Gaines Brown of Gulfport, entered eternal rest on Monday, January 23, 2012 at the age of 83. Born in Shreveport, LA on July 1, 1928, Nina was the daughter of Kathryne Foster Gaines (Corley) and Edward Pendleton Gaines, Jr. Nina attended North Texas State University for Women and Southern Methodist University where she majored in foreign language. She began her career in the travel industry working for Braniff Airlines at Love Field Airport in Dallas. While working for Braniff, she met and married James Clyde “J.C.” Brown on June 25, 1953. After moving to Gulfport in 1965 with their three children, Nina worked for Hancock Bank Travel Department. Her husband “J.C” worked for Deas Tire Company and served as General Manager for their Gulfport, Hattiesburg, Pascagoula, and Mobile locations. Nina was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years on June 30, 1977. Nina enjoyed spending time with her children and their families. She was a very proud American and was always ready to debate issues of our country and the world. For many years, Nina enjoyed attending Bible Study and Sunday Services at Handsboro United Methodist Church in Gulfport. She is survived by her three children, Mary Kathryne Brown Simonich of Gulfport, James Stephen Brown and wife, Myra Lynette Tribble Brown of Gulfport, and Barbara Brown Sheninger and husband, Albert Charles Sheninger of Marietta, GA. She is also survived by her oldest granddaughter, Amanda Marie Bishop and husband Richard Bishop, Jr. of Marietta, GA, her middle grandchild, Andrea Elizabeth Brown of Gulfport, and her youngest and only grandson, Christopher Stephen Brown of Gulfport. Additional family survivors include her elder brother and only sibling, Charles Robert Gaines of Magnolia, TX, and her 1st cousin and childhood best friend, Inez Virginia Stringfellow Littlejohn of Marshall, TX. Visitation and funeral services will be held at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 1726 15th Street, the corner of Highway 90 and 15th Street in Gulfport. Visitation will be Thursday, January 26, 2012 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Funeral services will be held in the Bradford-O’Keefe Chapel beginning at 1:00 pm. Nina will be laid to rest with her husband, mother, grandmother and other family members at Avinger United Methodist Church Cemetery in Avinger, Texas.
