Norman Ray Flurry, age 80, of Daisy Vestry, MS passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and children, on Tuesday, September 22, 2015.
Born in Pascagoula, he was raised in Daisy Vestry, and graduated from Mississippi State University as a petroleum geologist. He lived a rich and full life, traveling the world while working for Mobil Oil. He worked and traveled on six of the seven continents where his adventures were many. He mapped the ocean floor as chief scientific officer of a Mobil Oil seismic vessel, explored the jungles of Venezuela and the deserts of North Africa. He oversaw oil exploration in Nigeria and Indonesia. He and his wife, Sue, settled in Dallas, TX where he continued his career with Mobil Oil, managing exploration in Alaska and they raised their children. After retiring, he returned with his wife to his family home in Daisy Vestry.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Sue and parents, Norman and Freda Flurry.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Sue Flurry, son, Christopher Flurry, daughter, Helen ( David) Trajtenberg and grandchildren, Rose, Olive and Violet Trajtenberg.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 25, from 9am until 11am, with an 11am Mass of Christian Burial, all at Christ The King Catholic Church in Latimer. Burial will follow in Red Creek Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Daisy Vestry.
The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
