Nyoka Macine Smith, age 79, of Vancleave, MS passed away on May 8, 2024 at her residence.
Nyoka was born on April 26, 1945 to John and Etna (Cummings) Harris in Wayne County, MS. As a wife, a mother of two boys, and a grandmother of many, Nyoka was a loving and caring person who always sacrificed her own time and energy for the sake of others and her family. She had a smile that lit up the room, and she was always a gracious host that made everyone feel welcome in her home. She made her faith in Jesus Christ evident through her crafts and communications with others and through the values she demonstrated to those around her. She was a well-loved member of the community and had many hobbies and interests including bowling, dancing, ceramics, woodworking, painting, and paper crafts. Her legacy will live on through her children and grandchildren.
Nyoka is survived by her husband, George A. Smith Sr.; sons, George A. Smith Jr. (Amy) and Kenneth M. Smith (Melissa); grandchildren, Katie (Smith) Richardson (Matthew), George A. Smith III (Savannah), Koen Smith, and Allie Smith; and 8 great grandchildren.
Nyoka was preceded in death by her parents, John Thomas and Etna Menda Harris; 6 brothers, Bill Harris, Kenneth Harris, Joe Harris, Carl Harris, John Mason Harris, and Thomas Basil Harris; and sister, Juanita Holifield.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Vancleave at 12:30pm. Friends may visit 10:00am – 12:00pm.
A graveside service will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery at 2:30pm.
She will be greatly missed.
