Olige R. Moran

Olige R. Moran, age 89, departed this earth to be with his heavenly father on October 8, 2005 in Gulfport, surrounded by his beloved wife of 65 years, Edna, and family. Olige deeply loved and cherished his family. He and his wife celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage on August 31, 2005, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Despite the horrific events following this catastrophe, his dedication to his family and his faith never faltered. He was a devout Christian of the Catholic faith. His love for music was second in line to his love for his family. There wasn't a stringed instrument that Olige could not play. He was a self taught musician who spread his joy for music everywhere he went. His musical talents were passed on through his 3 sons, Garland, Gayle, and Perry Moran of the band, The Night Travelers. His original fiddling instrumental recordings on CD, "Catahoula Blues" and "Bayou La Croix Waltz", with accompaniment by his sons, will be cherished for generations. He will be forever remembered for the beautiful music he played with his fiddle. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Christine Moran, two sisters, Virgin Cuevas and Theresa Ladner, and one brother Napoleon Moran. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Edna Moran, and his six children, Garland Moran, Robert "Gayle" Moran, Glinda (Jerry) Gartman, Perry (Debbie) Moran, Sherry (Jerry) Rutland and Barbara Moran, 9 grandchildren, Jared Gartman, Thressa (John) Baker, Craig (Melissa) Gartman, Glenn (Tammy) Gartman, William (Kendra) Moran, Melissa (Chris) Chopin, Mindy Moran, Martha (Tracy) Lee, Amy (Tra)Gibson, and Jonatha Ladner and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Verina Deschamp and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be his sons, Garland, Gayle, and Perry Moran and his grandsons, Jared, Glenn and Craig Gartman, William Moran, and Jonathan Ladner. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten. Visitation will be 6-9:00 PM, 8:00 PM Rosary, Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, O'Neal Road in Gulfport. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M., Thursday at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lizana. Interment will be in Finley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be made to St. Ann's Catholic Church Building Fund or Knights of Columbus, 23529 Highway 53, Gulfport, MS 39503.
