Oliver A. Latil, III, a lifelong resident of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, passed away on November 30, 2024 at the age of 84.
Oliver was born January 4, 1940, in Biloxi MS to O. A. “Buddy” Latil, Jr. and Inez Maddox Latil. He attended Ocean Springs schools where he graduated in 1957. While attending Ocean Springs, he was a 3-sport athlete and half back for the Greyhound's undefeated football team. As a Boy Scout, Oliver achieved the distinction of Eagle Scout and earned Gold Palms with 41 merit badges. After graduating from Ole Miss in 1962, Oliver returned home and married his childhood sweetheart, Patrica Ann Endt. He worked in the family business, Latil Motor Company for 20 years. In 1980, Oliver joined State Farm Insurance as an agent in D'Iberville, MS. In his 38 years with State Farm, Oliver won several awards for excellence before retiring in 2018. A lifetime member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Oliver served on the vestry council, as the Parrish treasurer, and taught Sunday school.
Oliver was active in the community as a member of the Jaycees, Treasure Oak Country Club, Gulf Hills Men’s Club and a member of Ocean Spring Rotary Club where he achieved the distinction of being named a Paul Harris Fellow. In 1988, Oliver served as a Duke in Gulf Coast Carnival Association. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying boating, golfing, skiing, fishing and hunting. He played USTA team tennis over 30 years earning the nickname “The Cobra”. He won several state championships and competed at the USTA Nationals. One of Oliver’s favorite things to do was to travel. He traveled all over Europe, Bermuda, the Caribbean, South America, Canada along with numerous places in the United States. He loved his travels and the people who traveled with him.
Oliver is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Endt Latil; his two sons, Oliver A. Latil, IV (Deborah) of Mobile, AL and Christopher Lee Latil (Patty) of Las Vegas, NV.; 8 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents and his sister, Kay Latil Beaugez.
The family would like to express thanks to the nurses and caregivers at Lighthouse Assisted Living and Notre Dame Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Humane Society.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ocean Springs. Friends may visit one hour prior.
