Oscar King

Oscar "Wayne" King, age 61, of Ocean Springs died Friday, September 22, 2006, in Louisiana. Mr. King was born September 11, 1945 in Biloxi, MS to Mr. Robert Earl King, Sr. and Mrs. Lucille Duverney King. He was a loving husband, the world's best father and grandfather and the most fun person to be around. He was a lifelong resident of the Coast and resided in St. Martin for the past 41 years with his wife, Joyce. He met the love of his life at a high school ball game in 1964. He never went to ball games, but he decided to go with his brother on this particular night. He saw Joyce in the bleachers, walked right up to her and introduced himself. It was love at first sight. She immediately fell in love with his blue eyes. Their first date was on December 5, 1964 and he told her that he was going to marry her. One year later on November 20, 1965 they were married. He loved spending time outside and never wasted a second of daylight. He loved hunting, fishing, golfing, mud riding and working in the yard. He loved working with his hands and especially loved woodworking. He built hope chests, birdhouses, carousels and much more to give to all the people who loved him so much. He especially loved playing the guitar and singing with his son, family and friends, which were some of his best, most memorable weekends. He will be remembered most for his kindness and generosity. He always had a kind word and never spoke poorly of anyone or anything. The way he lived his life is an example for all to strive for. He was always there to lend a hand to anyone who needed help and was glad to do it never expecting anything in return. It was rare for him to ask anyone for help even when he really needed it. He never wanted to inconvenience anyone because he always thought of others before himself. He was considered a best friend to many and will be deeply missed by his family and friends left behind. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Earl King, Sr. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Joyce Ann King of St. Martin; his mother, Lucille King Timmons of Vancleave; two brothers, Robert Earl King, Jr. (Linda) and Eugene King both of St. Martin; three sisters, Dianne Quave (Richard), Betty Torgerson (Glenn) and Shirley Greene (Ben) all of Vancleave; one son, David Wayne King (Suzanne) of Ocean Springs; two daughters, Teresa Marie Oliver (Ronny) of Vancleave and Patricia Loraine Griswold (Freddie) of St. Martin; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Anthony, David, Jr., Hope, Danielle, Christy, Celeste, Kelsey and Avery. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Seymour Cemetery in St. Martin.
