Paul I. Newman

Paul I. Newman was a life-long resident of Biloxi. He was 87 years old and passed into eternal rest on Monday, June 22, 2009. Mr. Newman is descended from a family steeped in the fishing tradition. He was a World War II Veteran and served as a member of the United States Coast Guard. Paul met and married Helen Poulos in 1943. Mr. Newman was a Quarter Master in the Coast Guard. After an honorable discharge from the Coast Guard in 1945, he and his wife started their married life in Biloxi. Paul went to work for Frank P. Corso Inc. In time he left Corso and operated a family clothing store with his wife, Helen. Eventually, Paul decided to open Newman's Restaurant Supply and operated the very successful business for 22 years. At which time he decided to retire. He was an active member of Nativity B.V.M. Church and enjoyed his membership in the North Bay Senior Citizens Club. His hobbies were fishing, gardening and playing cards with family. He was preceded in death by his father, Martin "Tan" Newman, mother, Ruth Gibson Newman, eight sisters and brothers and one daughter, Ruth Barattini. He is survived by his adoring wife of 65 years, Helen Poulos Newman, two daughters, Mary Jo Newman and Paula Lusk, two sons-in-law, Frank Lusk and Craig Barattini, five grandchildren, Erin Raborn, Colin and Sean Lusk, Chelsea and Rachel Barattini, 4 great-grandchildren, Martin Raborn, Merrik and Ian Lusk and Olivia Lusk. Visitation is Thursday, June 25, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, June 26, 2009, 10:00 a.m. at Nativity B.V.M. where friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Interment is in Southern Memorial Park Mausoleum.
