Paul William Bennett, 86, died Wednesday, July 27, 2005. A private graveside service was held at Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi, MS. on Friday, July 29, 2005.
He was born October 14, 1918, in Huntington, West Virginia, and was a longtime resident of Biloxi and Ocean Springs, MS. He began his flying career by instructing U.S. Army Air Corp Cadets during WWII. He retired from Delta Air Lines in 1978 as a 747 captain after 36 years of professional airline experience and 33, 000 hours logged. After retiring from his airline career he volunteered time to fly missions to Central and South America for the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital. He authored the book "Flying, A Look Back," which was published in 1999.
He was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Biloxi.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Bennett, and mother, Ethel Yerks Bennett, and sisters, Edith B. Nolen and Laura B. Mackie.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine Riddle Bennett, and daughters Cathie B. Milner, Mary Carolyn B. Drake, Deborah A. Bennett, and Leslie B. Murphy; grandchildren Dr. Paul Bennett Milner, Bess Milner Olmsted, Loren A. Murphy; and five great grandchildren.
