Peggy Joyce Blakeney

Peggy Joyce Blakeney, 89, was called home to be with the Lord on October 15, 2015. She left this world peacefully, at home surrounded by family. Peggy was born in Raleigh, MS on July 6, 1926. She married U.L. Blakeney in 1945, after his return from the Pacific, serving with the Army Air Corp during WWII. Shortly thereafter, they moved to the Coast where U.L. worked until retirement as an aircraft quality control inspector at Keesler Air Force Base. Their family began with twin girls, another girl in two years, and later a son. In 1959 U.L. bought a small farm in Long Beach, moving from Gulfport to raise their family. Peggy lived each day with kindness, grace, compassion and unconditional love for her family. She maintained her sense of humor, while weathering the inevitable storms that life brings. A gentle nature concealed her inner strength of character. A loving mother and devoted wife, family was the most important thing to her. She was truly a special person. Mother was our angel on earth. Missing her and loving her everyday leaves an ache in our hearts that will remain until we can be together again. Mrs. Blakeney was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Urel Larry blakeney; parents, Olyer Wesley and Nannie Gertrude Clark, sister, Dottie Clark Henderson; and daughter, Annette Blakeney Pavolini. She is survived and sadly missed by her son, Larry Westley Blakeney; daughter, Linda Joyce Blakeney, Janette Easterling; son-in-law, Willis Pavolini, Otis Easterling; granddaughter, Debra Dennison; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Graveside services will be held Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery to inter Mr. and Mrs. Blakeney. Mr. Blakeney will be reinterred from his birthplace in Taylorsville with full military honors. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is in charge of arrangements.
