Peggy Jean Dees Plunk

Peggy Dees Plunk was called home to heaven on Friday, Sept. 24, 2010. Peggy was born on May 29, 1930 to C. L. Dees and Ionia Mills Dees. She attended Vancleave School, completing her high school years at Perkinston College in Perkinston, MS. Following her graduation, she attended Whitworth College in Brookhaven, MS, The University of Southern Mississippi, The University of Mississippi, and The University of Missouri. She was a lifetime member of Vancleave United Methodist Church, and was deeply involved in church activities. Peggy loved her hometown of Vancleave, where she found serenity among the pine trees, along the waters of Bluff Creek. She was the epitome of a Southern lady who loved people and loved being on the go. She had a loving, generous heart, and she adored her three children and six grandchildren. Her love for the Lord and her strong faith carried her through the years and to the end of her earthly life. Her sweet spirit has triumphantly joined the angels who have preceded her to glory, her father, C.L. Dees, mother, Ionia Mills Dees, her identical twin sister, Betty Jane Dees, her sister, Lysbeth Dees Ramsay, and her husband, USAF Major Henry Porter Plunk. She will be dearly missed by her family, her son, Daryl Mills Plunk of Alexandria, VA; her two daughters, Betty McCarroll of Long Beach, MS; Ionia (Oney) Reynolds (Joel) of San Antonio, TX; one brother, C.M. (Kipp) Dees of Vancleave, MS; one sister, Patsy Hinton Jones of Brandon, MS; and her six grandchildren, Amy Plunk and Ian Plunk of Alexandria, VA, Samuel McCarroll of Gulfport, MS and Mollie McCarroll of Long Beach, and Chase Reynolds and Taylor Reynolds of San Antonio, TX. The family would like to thank the staff of Ocean Springs Hospital, Dr. Richard Smith, Dr. Gary Rodberg, and Rev. Robbie Murden for their gracious care and concern for her during her illness. Memorials may be made in Peggy’s honor to New Prospect United Methodist Campground, P.O. Box 5382, Vancleave, MS 39565 and Chromosome 9p- Network, P.O. Box 524, Appleton, WI 54912. A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, September 28, 2010, at 7 p.m. at Vancleave United Methodist Church where friends may visit one hour before service time. Interment will be held privately by the family. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs is in charge of arrangements. .
