Peter Emanuel Stanovich, Jr., age 80, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2023. After suffering many years with various illnesses, Pete is now at peace as he rests in the company of his Lord and Savior.
Pete was born to Peter and Bessie Stanovich on January 16, 1943. After high school graduation in 1961, he served in the U.S. Army. He retired from Lucent Technologies in 2003. Retirement was blissful as Pete traveled from Biloxi to Silas and Brewton, AL, hunting and visiting with friends and family.
Pete was preceded in death by his mother and father; his sister, Missie Felsher and her husband, Elmer; his mother-in law and father-in-law, Dubert and Lucille Pettis; and his brothers-in-law, Bobby Lewis and Sidney Lanier.
Pete is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mrs. Shirley Stanovich; his children, Tonya and Pete of whom he was so proud; his son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Anthony Wilson and Shea Etheridge Stanovich; his precious grandchildren, Meghan, Katie (Ben), Natalie, Andie, Peter IV (Jackson), Mae, Anaclaire, and Harris (Page); three great grandsons, Leo Daniel Otten, Max Lee Otten and Lincoln Etheridge; and two great granddaughters, A.J. Etheridge and Emmy Etheridge. Pete's surviving siblings are Quention Stanovich, Roy Stanovich, and Lindus Stanovich; and his sisters-in- law, Fran and Wanda.
To Pete's 5 grandchildren, their Paw Paw was considered a legend. To Shirley and his children, he was a tower of strength and stability. After his retirement, Pete devoted most of his time to his granddaughters. His only grandson was born in 2006 and the timing was perfect for Pete to play an integral part in his life. Pete's presence will be greatly missed by all and we are eternally grateful for the love and happiness he provided in all our lives.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Cedar Lake United Methodist Church. The memorial service will begin at 11 A.M. with burial immediately following at Coalville Cemetery in Woolmarket.
We would like to take this time to thank Hospice of Light, and especially Gina and Zai for all the love and compassion they have shown to our family. We could not have kept Pete at home without their help and dedication.
Pallbearers are Quention Stanovich, Roy Stanovich, Lindus Stanovich, Pete Stanovich, Jackson Stanovich, and Anthony Wilson.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
