Philip Earl Spurlin

Philip Earl Spurlin, 75, of Biloxi, MS passed away Thursday, February 12, 2009. Smsgt. Spurlin retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1980 where he had served for 28 years. He was a Vietnam veteran and received several meritorious decorations during his time of service. He was born in Hopkinsville, KY on April 26, 1933 to Prentis Lee and Buna Iris (Corley) Spurlin. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Raymond Lee Spurlin of Elkton, KY. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Fern Ann (Donahue) Spurlin and his children, Gale Spurlin (William) Tierce of Birmingham, AL and Philip Eugene (Pam) Spurlin of Biloxi, MS. His four grandchildren include, Patricia Lynn Stanfa of Birmingham, AL, Christopher Philip, Catherine Renee and Jacob Earl Spurlin all of Biloxi, MS. He is also survived by his brothers, William Lloyd Spurlin of Hopkinsville, KY and Robert Corley Spurlin of Batesville, AR; his sister, Virgina Nell Jessup of Hopkinsville, KY. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 417 Security Square, Gulfport, MS 39507. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at the Biloxi National Cemetery on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at 1:30 pm.
