Philip Lanier “Lanny” Lang, age 87, of Gulfport, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 29, 2023.
Lanny was born May 27, 1936 in Gulfport, MS to Edwin Buckner Lang and Montine Lanier Lang. Lanny was raised in Gulfport and was a graduate of Gulfport High School in 1954. He also graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1959.
Lanny lived in Memphis, TN where he raised his children, and in Polar Bluff, MO. When he retired, Lanny and Kay came back home to Gulfport and built their dream home.
Lanny enjoyed wood working in his shop and made beautiful furniture, clocks, and special heirloom pieces for his grandchildren. Lanny loved fishing and made many wonderful memories on fishing trips with loved ones and friends during his life.
Lanny also loved to travel and was proud to say that he and Kay had visited all 50 states! He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Gulfport where he served faithfully until his health declined.
Lanny loved life and had an adventurous spirit, was a great storyteller, had a loud boisterous laugh, and was kind and generous. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Lanny was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Philip Lanier “Phil” Lang, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Kay Lang; daughter, Lisa Lang West (Royce); daughter-in-law, Harriet; step-daughter, Sheila Furlow (Bob); step-son, Aaron McGill (Karen); and step-daughter, Beth Childers (Derek). Lanny and Kay were blessed with 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren who all lovingly called him “Pop”.
The family would like to thank Canon Hospice in Gulfport, the team of caregivers who loved him like family, and First United Methodist Church.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 3, 2023 at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15452 O’Neal Road, Gulfport, MS 39503. Friends may visit one-hour prior to service. The O’Neal Road Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is honored to serve the Lang family.
