Mrs. Phyllis Bennett, age 80, of Ocean Springs, MS., died Wednesday, February 28, 2007, in Ocean Springs. She was born on August 19, 1926, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Clifford Hollibaugh and Jean Louise Connolly Hollibaugh. She graduated from Mary Manse College in Toledo, Ohio and worked as a lab technician for the late Dr. Zebinden in Toledo. She later worked as a stewardess for Chicago and Southern Airlines where she met her former husband, Elmer F. Bennett, an airline captain for Chicago and Southern Airlines and later Delta Airlines. Mrs. Bennett was the publicity model for Chicago and Southern Airlines and modeled for the Toledo Blade newspaper. She was based in Memphis, TN., while flying for the airline then later moved to New Orleans, LA. She raised her three children in Covington, LA. where she was very active in Playmakers Theater and had the starring role as "Laura" in "The Glass Menagerie". She was also a member of the St. Tammany Parish Art Association, a Girl Scout leader and loved all animals and bred her beloved Weimaraner dogs for many years. Mrs. Bennett moved to Ocean Springs in the 1980's and volunteered her time at the Ocean Springs Hospital Auxiliary. She was employed by the Seafood Industry Museum in Biloxi as well as the Gulf Islands National Seashore Park. She enjoyed dancing at the Fleur De Leis (French Club) in Biloxi and especially enjoyed the festivals surrounding the Blessing of the Fleet in Biloxi. She was also a member of the Garden Club in Ocean Springs, was a Catholic and attended St. Michaels Church in Biloxi. Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her children, Holly Bennett Hall and Jean Louise (Gigi) Bennett, both of Ocean Springs and John Joseph Bennett of Orange Beach, AL., one granddaughter, Brooke Louise Jacobs of Peachtree City, GA., two great-grandchildren, Kayla Louise Jacobs and Henry Foster Jacobs, both of Peachtree, GA., and her very dear longtime companion, Odeus (Dago) Trahan of D'Iberville, MS. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be on Saturday, March 3, 2007, from 10 AM - 12 Noon, with a 12 Noon chapel service, all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crestlawn Memorial Park.
