Prentiss Woods, Jr., 72, of Long Beach, died Sunday, January 2, 2005, in Gulfport. He was born in Hancock County and was a lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and was a truck driver for 38 years. Mr. Woods also coached little league football and softball in Pineville. He served many years as a parishioner and usher at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. His hobbies were gardening and spending time with his wife of 49 years and his grandchildren. He was a very devoted husband and loving father and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his mother, Olivia Johnson; brothers, D.V. Johnson and Otis Ray Johnson; and grandparents, Richard and Bessie Woods. He is survived by his loving wife, Bernice Hoda Woods; three sons, Mike Woods, Kevin Woods, and Marty Woods, all of Long Beach; a daughter, Kathy Woods Garrett and her husband, Joe Garrett, Jr. of Pass Christian; a sister, Vernice Howard of San Antonio, TX; 5 brothers, Leo Johnson, Ernie Johnson, Leroy Johnson, Garfield Johnson, and Vennon Johnson, all of DeRidder, LA; 8 grandchildren, Scarlett, Mickey, Michael, Nikki, Corey, Joe, III, Kortney and Kayla. The family extends their sincerest thanks and appreciation to the staff of Gulfport Memorial Hospital and most of all to Dr. Stephen Baker and Ray Mock and all the caring nurses on 3 CD and especially to our loving niece Allison Hoda. Visitation will be Tuesday evening Jan. 4, 2005, from 6 until 10 p.m. with the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Pass Christian where friends may visit from 12 p.m. until the service. Interment will follow at Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens in Long Beach.
