Ray Eugene Phillips

Ray Eugene Phillips passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 27, 2013. He was born June 23, 1932 in Robinson, Illinois to Ralph and Edra Phillips. He grew up in Raton, New Mexico leaving for Keesler Air Force Base when he joined the United States Air Force in 1950. He is preceded in death by two sisters, Betty and Marilyn, and survived by a sister, Sandra, living in Gilbert, AZ; and his mother, Edra Phillips of Raton, New Mexico. Ray was a member of Cedar lake United Methodist Church. He was in the United States Air Force for 23 years and served as a non-commissioned officer in the United States, Europe and Asia performing duties as a communications specialist. Upon retiring from the USAF he went back to college and received his Bachelor’s degree in education and a Master’s degree in administration. He taught at Long Beach High School and Jefferson Davis Junior College Vo-Tech. However, his greatest love was teaching an adult Sunday School Class at Cedar Lake United Methodist Church. Ray is survived by his wife of 62 years, Glenna Jones Phillips, who will for now remain in the D’Iberville-Woolmarket area; three sons and families, Gary (Deborah) of Lansing, Kansas, Ralph (BevVan) of Omaha, Nebraska, Larry of Virginia Beach, Virginia; three grandsons; one granddaughter; and five great grandsons. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Cedar Lake Methodist Church, 12332, Cedar Lake Rd., Biloxi, MS. Pastor Bill Mathews and Reverend Robert Jones will be officiating. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
