Lt. Col. Ray R. Moran (U.S. Army Retired), age 80, of Gulfport died Sunday, May 20, 2007 in Gulfport. He was a lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast. He was retired as Lt. Colonel from the U.S. Army having served during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He received the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, and Army Air Medal. He was a member of of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, a life member of Otter/Carribou Association (Army Aviation), and the VFW. Mr. Moran was a 1951 graduate of Mississippi State University, a graduate of Command and General Staff School and of U.S. Army Intelligence School. His last assignment was Commander of U.S. Army Aviation School Training Element at KAFB. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester S. and Valina Necaise Moran; a son, Robert R. Moran; and sisters, Inez M. Smith and Doris M. Moran. He is survived by his wife, Jean K. Moran of Gulfport; three daughters, Carol V. Moran of Gulfport, Mary Ann Clisby (Robert) of Ocean Springs, Robin L. Robinson (McNiell) of Mobile, AL; a son, Timothy K. Moran (Terrie) of Covington, LA; two sisters, Ouida Ziemke of Janesville, MN and Betty M. Ladner of Dedeaux; two brothers, James H. Moran (Lula) and Jack L. Moran (Inla Ray) all of Gulfport; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday evening May 22, 2007 from 5 until 8:00 p.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, O'Neal Road in Gulfport with the Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Gulfport where friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until the service. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Gulfport.
