Raymond "Generator Ray" Marek, Sr., age 75, of Gulfport, died Monday, August 11, 2008 in New Orleans, LA. He was born December 3, 1932 in Clearwater, MN. Raymond was stationed at Keesler AFB in the 1950's where he met his wife of 49 years, Barbara Marek. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp for two years during the Korean Conflict and then entered the U.S. Air Force where he served for 25 years. He retired in 1972 as a Master Sergeant from Nelis AFB in Las Vegas, Nevada where he began his love of boats and served as Commodor of the Calville Bay Yacht Club in 1974 and 1975 in Las Vegas. He returned to the Gulf Coast and resided for the past 32 years. He owned and operated Engine and Generator Service from 1976 to 1995 and became known as "Generator Ray" He was an avid horseshoe player and a master pool player. He was preceded in death by his father, Ferdinand A Marek, mother, Edith M. Watts Marek; step-mother, Ora Marek; a sister, Marge Patterson; and one brother, Frank Marek. Raymond is survived by his wife Barbara Marek of Gulfport; three sons, Andy Marek of Las Vegas, NV, Alan Marek and wife, Michele of Gulfport, and Jeff Marek of Gulfport; a daughter, Missy Lawrence and husband, Greg of Biloxi; four grandchildren, Chris Marek, Nick Marek, Kaylee Lawrence, and Makenzie Lawrence; and one great-grandchild, Matthew Marek. There will be a graveside service Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport with full military honors.
