Raymond “Ray” Lucien Gouin of Gulfport, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, MS.
Ray was a native of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He was very active in all sports while attending Fort Francis High School in Ontario, his favorite sport being hockey. Ray was also an avid golfer and enjoyed golfing with some of his service related, longtime friends.
Ray enlisted in the Air Force in 1955 and was stationed at numerous bases both abroad and in the states. He retired in 1976 with the rank of Master Sergeant. Ray continued his career with Digital Equipment Inc. in Boston, MA and returned to the Gulf Coast in 1982 to work as an instructor with civil service at Keesler AFB.
Ray was a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1968, a former member of the Biloxi Council No. 1244, Gulfport Council No. 1583, a member of St James Council No. 11541 and Fourth Degree Assembly No. 2558. He held office as the council activities chairman for both Biloxi and Gulfport Councils.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Lucien Gouin of International Falls, MN, and Antoinette Brunelle Gouin of Gulfport, MS. Ray was also preceded in death by his brothers, John Pierre Gouin of Fort Lauderdale, Fl. and Andre Gouin of International Falls, MN.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Virginia Victoria Winter Gouin of Gulfport; sister, Annette A. Finstad of International Falls, MN; son, Robert Gouin (Karen Cress Gouin); daughter, Cynthia Gouin Harris (Norwood “Woody” Ruiz). Ray’s four grandchildren are, Jason Gouin (Heather Williams Gouin) of Saucier MS, Rebecca “Becky” Gouin Whittet (Joey Whittet) of Gulfport, MS, Richard “Ricky” Harris of D’Iberville, MS and E-4 (Corporal Specialist) Christopher “Chris” Harris stationed at Fort Wainwright, Fairbanks, AK. Ray also leaves behind four great-grandchildren, Grant Whittet IV, Kallie Whittet, Cooper Gouin and Callan Gouin.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of the Armed Forces Retirement Home and Hospice of Light for their compassionate care of our family’s patriarch.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, where friends may visit one-hour prior to service. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery with U.S. Air Force honors. Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport is honored to serve the Gouin family.
