Rebecca “Becky” Suzanne Dennis, age 52 of Gulfport died Saturday in Gulfport.
Beloved wife of Chris Nelson, daughter of Diana Rose and the late MSGT Paul A. Dennis. Becky passed from this world surrounded by the loving care of her family and friends. She ended her dance with cancer gracefully and peacefully.
Becky was born in Watertown, NY but travelled the world with her parents serving in the United States Air Force. “Living in so many places was critical to the formation of “…her…” perception that we all are One”.
Becky graduated from Osterholz American High School in Germany as the Salutatorian for the class of 1980. There she had her first experience with working in clay, this would become a lifelong passion.
She moved to the Biloxi/Gulfport area in 1980 where she graduated from the coast nursing program at MS Gulf Coast Community College in 1984. She spent 15 amazing years as a compassionate and empathic home health registered nurse.
Becky was an award winning artist of works in clay. She displayed her work at the Geo. Ohr Museum in Biloxi, MS as well as exhibiting her original ceramic art at local festivals including Peter Anderson and Art in the Pass and Festival International in Lafayette, LA. She was passionate about “integrating and expressing inspirations from nature’s beauty and many life experiences”. Each piece of Art in Clay by Becky was inscribed with a “spiritual message or a philosophical story” on the back. They were hidden away like an esoteric truth that that one must search for diligently. She described herself as a ..”clay artist, teacher, mystical story teller, nurse/healer, empath/intuitive, loving care taker, herbalist, gardener, free thinker.”
She will be missed and never forgotten by those who loved her and were loved by her.
In Lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to one’s favorite charity. Arrangements were handled by BRADFORD-O’KEEFE FUNERAL HOME, 15th St. Gulfport.
