Rene Moniot

Rene Joseph Moniot Jr. June 26, 1933 - March 19, 2005. We morn the passing of our beloved Rene Joseph Moniot Jr. He is gone to join his loving mother, Marion Bessey and father Rene Joseph Moniot Sr. in the caring arms of our Lord in heaven. He was 71 years of age. He is survived by his children, James Michael Moniot of Billings, MT; Margaret Renee Moniot and Stephen Paul Moniot both of Ocean Springs, MS. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Charles Leon Moniot of Oxford, MS; Helen Elizabeth Fabie of York, PA; Robert Moniot of Ocean Springs, MS and Maureen Claire Moniot of Biloxi, MS. He has four grandchildren, Colin Stephen Moniot, Lesile Renee Moniot, Meghan Renee Taylor, and Ryan Earl Taylor. He also has two great-grandchildren, Kira Marie Moniot and Braden Stephen Moniot. He attended Sacared Heart Academy and Notre Dame Jr. High in Biloxi before becoming a seminarian at St. Josephs Benedictine Order in Benedict, LA and St. Meinrads in Meinrad, IN. He then joined the Carmelite Monastery in Marylake, AR. He left the Monastic life and completed his degree in English, Religion and Philosophy at the University of Southern Mississippi, in 1956. He was also awarded an honorary Accounting degree from Sonoma State University for his help in auditing the books of the City of Cotati, CA in 1972. He married Julia Isabelle Starks in 1958. He taught private school at Ecole Classique in New Orleans, LA and the Kern School in Pass Christian, MS. He then moved to California where he worked as a Public Relations Manager for Redwood Lincoln Mercury in San Francisco and then as an accountant for Jesse Colin Young of the sixties pop group"The Youngbloods". He also did taxes for other notable musicians as, Van Morrison, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane and others. He then retired to the pastoral life of raising goats and operating his dairy "La Cabriole". Rene loved music most of all and blessed with a beautiful singing voice he was invited to be a member of the Choir of the San Francisco Opera Guild. Poppa was a colorful, an intellectual, a free spirit, and a peaceful man, who loved music, nature in all her forms, and a smile on your face. We will miss him very much. Memorial Mass will be Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at 12 noon at Nativity BVM Catholic Church in Biloxi.
