Rev. W.G. Cummings, age 87, born Jan. 6. 1920, went to his Heavenly home at 1 AM on November 29, 2007.
He was a resident of River Chase Village in Gautier, MS. At the time of his death, he was attended by his wife Mary and two daughters, Dorothy Phelps and Doris Furby. He was born January 6, 1920. Bill, as he was fondly known, was Pastor to several southern Baptist churches from Emmanuel in Ocean Springs (early Fifties) to Newton County and then back to his last pastorate at Temple Baptist Church at Big Point. He received his two year degree at Clark Memorial College in Newton and Bachelor's degree from William Carey College. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ocean Springs, where he professed Christ and received his call to pastoral ministry under Pastor W.R. Cummings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John A. Cummings, Ruth Kolb Cummings and the first son the Rev. W.A. Cummings.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary E. Shepherd Cummings; three sons and two daughters: Billy Cummings (Bev) from Pacheco, CA, Rev. Hugh Holder-Cummings (Rev. Dixie) from Cleveland, MS, Dorothy Cummings Phelps (Lloyd) from Grand Bay, AL, Doris Cummings Furby (Eddie) from Lincoln, NE and Rev. Dwight Cummings (Eileen) from Hallock, MN. His grandchildren are: Suzette C. Mills, Wade Cummings, Andy Cummings, David Cummings, Jon Cummings, Michelle C. Agasi, Frank Cummings, Drew Cummings Miller, Beth Holder-Cummings, Jamie Phelps, Shea Furby, Jason Stone, Tim Furby, Brad Furby, Adrian Clermont, Jason Clermont and Jackie Clermont. He is also survived by twenty one great-grandchildren.
The Celebration of Life, Death and Resurrection will be at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes on Monday, December 3, 2007 at 3:00 p.m., Family Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. and friends may visit at 2:00 p.m., burial will follow at the Crestlawn Memorial Park in Ocean Springs. Those officiating will be Rev. Bob Storie, Rev. Dixie Holder-Cummings and Rev. Hugh Holder-Cummings.
Memorials may be made to The Baptist Children's Village in Jackson and St. Rock United Methodist Church in Biloxi through local churches and United Methodist Conference Treasurer.
