Richard Eugene Hartney, Sr.

Mr. Richard E. Hartney, 83, of Ocean Springs, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2010, in Ocean Springs. Mr. Hartney, a retired U. S. Navy Veteran of WW II and Korea, was also retired from Litton Data Systems as an electronics engineer. He was a member of the Elks, BPOE #2501, of Ocean Springs and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. He was an avid fisherman and loved to play golf with his friends and family. Some of his most fond memories were his trips to Australia to visit family, fish the reefs and explore the outback with his niece, Sue Burgess, and her husband, Ross, who live there. He had a very interesting life and had many unique experiences in his navy career and his work on the NASA program. He always provided much entertainment to family and friends with his interesting stories and colorful language. He will be missed very much by those who knew and loved him. Mr. Hartney was preceded in death by his wife, Garnet Bratschi Hartney; son, Richard E. Hartney, II; and a grandson, Bayley Hartney. He is survived by his daughter, Donna (Mike) Miller of Biloxi; daughter-in-law, Rhis Hartney of Newport News, VA; six grandsons, one granddaughter and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m., Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, 675 Howard Avenue, in Biloxi where friends may visit one hour before service time. Interment will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery.
