Richard “Dr. H.” Hogancamp, 82, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi passed away from complications from myasthenia gravis, Wednesday evening, December 5, 2012.
Dr. Hogancamp is preceded in death by his first wife, Janene Hogancamp and son, Randal Hogancamp.
He is survived by his wife, Sallie Hogancamp of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; children, Suzanne (David) Akers of Flat Rock, Michigan; Robert (Amber) Hogancamp of St. Augustine, Florida; Heather (Brett) Giese of Newaygo, Michigan; Kari Nahgahgwon of Goodyear, Arizona; and Lindsay (Michael) Rechnitz of Manteca, California; sisters, Jeanne Gooch (Bob) and Kay Scott. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amy Akers, Roryck Hogancamp, Roman Hogancamp, Brit Giese, Madisen Giese, Jack Nahgahgwon and Greyson Rechnitz.
Dick (Richard) was born in Larchwood, Iowa at his grandparents’ home on November 17, 1930.
His career in education spanned over 40 years. During that time, he contributed to the field through various leadership positions both in South Dakota and in Michigan until retiring in 1991 from the position of Superintendent of the Newaygo County Regional Educational Service Agency (Newaygo County Intermediate School District). He continued his love of education while volunteering as a docent at the Walter Anderson Museum of Art in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and as a ranger at the Gulf Islands National Seashore Park also in Ocean Springs.
He was best known for his enthusiastic personality and love of living life to its fullest a long side his family. His gifts of unconditional love and his unwavering belief that everyone had a story to tell will be dearly missed.
The family will be hosting a celebration of his life at The Shack, in White Cloud, Michigan, on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. Please join us in the sharing of memories and a light lunch.
