Richard Edward Hughes

Richard Edward Hughes, of Gulfport, MS was born on March 3, 1930 in San Diego, CA and passed away on April 24, 2018 at the William F. Green Veterans Home in Bay Minette, AL. Richard, known simply as “Red” to his friends, enlisted in the U.S. Army on August 19, 1949. He served for three years and then enlisted into the U.S. Air Force on August 19, 1952. He continued his service throughout the Korean and Vietnam War before retiring on February 1, 1967. He met the love of his life, Hideko Yufu, while stationed in Japan and, in 1961, they were married. It was a union that would last 53 years until her passing on October 30, 2014. Red was preceded in death by his beloved wife; his father, George Hughes; and his mother, Pearl Hughes. Red leaves behind cherish friends who will most certainly miss his jovial personality. Thank you to all the wonderful nurses and aides at the William F. Green Veterans Home for all their love and care, and others who helped with his care along the way. Your dedication will always be remembered. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery. The Howard Avenue Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
