Richard Robert Perkett (Rich), 76, of Pass Christian MS passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his dogs on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
He was born in Portsmouth, VA on September 2, 1948 to Barbra Gayle Herrick (Mother) and George Richard Perkett (Father). He was a 28 year veteran of the US Coast Guard and achieved the rank of Master Chief Boatswain's Mate. His last command was on the Point Estero where he retired with many gold star commendations. He was an avid gardener. He enjoyed manicuring and mowing his lawns and doing yard work on his property. He was an amazing family man who always loved being around all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a devoted dog owner and enjoyed plenty of recreation time with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Barbra Gail Herrick and George Richard Perkett; his stepfather, Charles “Chick” Herrick and stepmother, Rose Perkett; and son-in-law, Donnie Chapman.
Survivors include his daughters, Becky Meints (Jim), Wendy Perkett and Robyn Vermillion (Doug); grandchildren Ashley Wade (Meghan), Justin Wade, Alysha Pitman (Henry), Garrett Warden, Chella Vermillion, Jasper Vermillion; great grandchildren, Levi Pitman, Truly Pitman, Cohen Dupree, Madison Anderson; and longtime girlfriend, Cindy Crawford.
Visitation will be Monday, February 10, 2025 from 12:30 to 1:30 at Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15452 O’Neal Road, Gulfport with a funeral service to follow at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be at Biloxi National Cemetery on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. for close family and friends.
