Richard Roy Scott

Richard Roy Scott of Saucier, MS went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 in Biloxi, Mississippi. Richard was born March 18, 1926 in Hamilton, Iowa to Roy R. and Nellie J. Scott and was raised on the Scott family farm located in Monroe County’s Bluff Creek Township. He married Mary L. Henderson, from Lovilia Iowa, in 1947. Richard was always most proud of his heritage as an Iowa farmer. He was also employed as a foundry worker for Maytag Corporation, proprietor of a Phillips 66 service station, a plumber, and finally as an over-the-road truck driver. His driving career began in Albia, IA and later took Richard and his family to Cleveland, Ohio and then Buffalo, New York; where he retired in 1988. His employer, Consolidated Freightways, honored him with an award for driving over 6 million miles. After retiring, Richard and Mary relocated to Saucier, Mississippi. They have been long time members of Heritage United Methodist Church in the city of D’Iberville where Richard enjoyed volunteering many years of service, especially following Hurricane Katrina; spending countless hours helping rebuild his community. Richard was an avid gardener and also enjoyed working in his wood shop making many things for family and friends. Those items were always delivered with a smile accompanied by one of the many stories that he loved to tell. He was a Freemason and a Shriner. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Verdell Scott; and sisters Edith Bloomgren and Mary Jane Kramer. He is survived by Mary, his Loving wife of 73 years, of Ocean Springs, MS; brothers Charles (Rosemary) Scott of Albia, IA; and Raymond (Emilie) Scott of Cape Girardeau, MO; sister Alice Fontinel of Payson, AZ; daughters Donna (Richard) Ingalls of Holiday, FL; and Rita (Casey) Russin of Twinsburg, OH; sons Paul (Trish) Scott of Brookpark, OH; and Bruce (Susan) Scott of Saucier, MS; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Heritage United Methodist Church, 4322 Popp’s Ferry Rd., D’Iberville, MS 39540. A private graveside service will be held at D’Iberville Memorial Park. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue, Biloxi is honored to serve this family.
