Richard "Red" White left this worldly life on November 10, 2017. His life was brought to an end by natural causes. Richard was 96 years old. Richard was born in Pascagoula, MS on September 13, 1921. He spent most of his youth in DeVereaux Hall Boy's Home in Natchez, MS. At the age of 18, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in the 66th Chemical Base Depot Company for three years, two months and twenty-eight days. An injury occurring before D-Day brought Richard back to the United States with an Honorable Discharge. Shortly after his return to Biloxi, he began working for A&P Tea Company as a produce clerk and retired as a produce manager after 38 years. Richard has been a member of Nativity B.V.M. Parish for over 70 years. He served as Head Usher until his demise. Richard was a member of the Holy Name Society and of St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was also grounds keeper for the Cathedral and the Sacred Heart Center. Richard was a man of great faith and took pride in his commitment to the parish. Richard, a loving husband and father, a hardworking, kind and generous man, was liked by all who came in contact with him.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Rose B. White; two brothers, Andrew and Ralph White; his sister, Rose White Hayden; the love of his life-Mary Ann Scott White; and his first grandchild, Kevin E. White.
Richard is survived by his children, Cynthia White and Vicki (Mike) Pechawer; son, Leonard White; two grandchildren, Jean Marie Epps and David (Kelly) Pechawer; Four great grandchildren, Jason Epps II, Amber McKaig, Jakob and Sophia Pechawer; Five nieces; four nephews, numerous great and great-nieces and nephews and a host of friends and acquaintances.
Richard is no longer in midst. He has left a legacy of faith, peace and kindness. Richard will live on in our thoughts, in our hearts and in our prayers.
Richard's family is eternally grateful to the nursing staff of the Biloxi V.A. CLC-Rio Grande and Niagara for the care given to Dad and the comfort that they provided during his final days.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Nativity B.V.M. Cathedral at 12 noon, Wednesday, November 15, 2017. Friends may visit two hours prior. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
