Ms. Rita Louise Braxton was born March 30, 1951 to the late Mr. Moses Hopkins and Mrs. Albertha L. Hopkins, of Amsterdam, New York. At an early age she received Christ. She attended and graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1970. After graduation, she attended Bryan Stratton Business Institute for Data Entry.
On August 23, 1974, she united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Roosevelt Braxton, Jr. and to this union, two children were born. Rita dedicated most of her career as a Civil Service employee and her last place of employment was in the Contract and Procurement Division, Naval Construction Battalion Center, Gulfport, Mississippi.
On July 23, 2005, God sent his beloved angels to bring Rita Braxton home to be with him. Rita departed this life at her home with her family. She leaves to cherish her loving memories one daughter, Mrs. Raechell and (Eugene) Liger, Jr. of Metairie, Louisiana, one son, Mr. Ryon Braxton of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, four brothers, Mr. Earl and (Virginia) Hopkins, Mr. Moses and (Lucy) Hopkins, Jr., and Mr. Lance Hopkins all of Amsterdam, New York; Mr. Chris and (Leslie) Hopkins of Glenville, New York; one sister, Ms. June Hopkins of Schenectady, New York; a devoted friend who thought of Rita as a mother figure, Miss Kiona Daniels of Washington, D.C., one grandson, Master Eugene Liger, III of Metairie, Louisiana, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, July 29, 2005 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by an 11 AM church service, all at Calling All Christians Church in Moss Point. Burial will be in Biloxi City Cemetery. The Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home is in charge of services.
