Robert Lee Brock, III of Saucier, MS passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021 in Gulfport, MS. He was born in Rayville, LA and had been a resident of Saucier since 1991.
As a young man before going into the service, Robert worked charter boats out of Dauphin Island as well as selling Kirby vacuum cleaners on the side. He loved to sing and was in a band called the “69th Rerun” as lead singer.
He loved to fish and hunt but his passion was fishing. He served as president of the Ocean Springs Bass Masters Club, Southern Director for Mississippi Bass Charter Foundation and president of the Birmingham, AL Bass Masters. He dearly loved his family and friends and would have done anything for them.
He joined the Army because he loved his country and wanted to do his part. After graduating boot camp at Fort Benning, GA, he went to Germany for a year and was then stationed at Fort Rucker, AL, got married April 10, 1971 and three months later was off to Vietnam for a year. After returning home, he got hired as an elevator/escalator mechanic with Montgomery Elevator Company and became the youngest vice president for the elevator union. He also because a certified elevator safety inspector.
Robert received numerous performance appraisals while working at Biloxi and Gulfport VA’s as an electrician. After he left the engineering department, he was promoted to safety officer where he worked at several VA’s around the country. He was certified in engineering and construction management and the national electrical and safety codes. He received the Secretary’s Hero Award for service during Katrina and certificates of excellence for outstanding performance and for making a lasting contribution to the Carson National Forests Safety Program as well as other national forests throughout the country as safety officer. He received a reward for his selfless act to save a man and his dog from drowning at Hiller Park in Biloxi.
He was a best friend, a good provider and a loving husband and father for the last 50 years of his life. If only we could have had another 50 years with him it still would not have been long enough. Robert had too many accomplishments to list but we just want people to know what a good man he was.
Robert is survived by his wife Rita Brock and two sons, Robert Lee Brock, IV and Christopher David Brock; two sisters Sheila Smith and Marsha Welch; a brother Roy Brock; and two grandchildren Billy M. Brock and Tommy K. Brock.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at the O’Neal Road location of Bradford O’Keefe Funeral Home. Interment will be in Biloxi National Cemetery.
