Mr. Robert Emmett Lee, age 83, of Ocean Springs, MS., died on Saturday, December 29, 2007, after a long illness.
He was born in Hattiesburg, MS., on February 20, 1924, and moved to Biloxi when he was a year old. He graduated from Biloxi High School in 1941 and from Mississippi State College in 1950 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He served three years in the Navy in WWII in the South Pacific, mostly on aircraft carriers. After his discharge, he worked at Keesler Air Force Base as an instructor. He then went to work for Hughes Aircraft Company in California and Foley, AL for a total of 29 years. After two retirements from Hughes he was active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 20 years. He also served on the Fort Bayou Fire Department Board of Directors for several years, was active in the Singing River Mall Model Railroad Club, and thoroughly enjoyed sailing sloops, motorhoming and going on cruises. He was of the Lutheran faith and served in various capacities at churches in California and Biloxi. At present, he was a member of Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Ocean Springs.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Goss and Christian Thomas.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Margaret, daughters, Janice Lee and Lynne Fuller, grandchildren, Stephan and Simone Santibanez and Logan and Erin Wilkie. He is also survived by his foster brother, Henry Schwan, and nephews Henry, Chris, and Lee Schwan all of Athens, AL.
A special thanks goes to the Hospice of Light nurse, Glenda Liniger, aide, Shonda Matthews, and social worker Julia Wasvick, who helped so much in his care. Also to Christus Victor members, Brenda Montgomery, Kathy Rasmussen and Lynda Richmond, and to good friends and golfing buddies, Jack Douglas and Cliff Ball.
On Wednesday, January 2, 2008, there will be a 1:30 PM chapel service at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 12 Noon - 1:30 PM. Burial will follow in the Biloxi National Cemetery.
