Robert Ervin Simmons, age 78, of Gulfport, died Sunday, January 24, 2010 in Gulfport.
Mr. Simmons was born in Long Beach and was a lifelong resident of the coast. He was a retired commercial fisherman and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Pentecostal faith.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Caldwell, step-mother, Naomi Simmons and his fathers, John Simmons and Houston Caldwell.
Survivors include two daughters, Amy Simmons of Winnie, TX., and Tammy McGill of Long Beach; five sons, Dwayne Simmons of Magnolia, TX., Robbie Simmons of Baytown, TX., Rocky Simmons of Picayune, MS., Bennie Harvel and Darrin Simmons both of Gulfport; six sisters, Carolyn Simmons Carter (Fred) of Burlington, IA, Sharon Simmons, Donna Simmons (Ray Bell), Rhonda Simmons Cospelich (Buddy) all of Gulfport, Alma Harris (Jimmy) and Geraldine Robertson (Don) both of Biloxi; four brothers, Frank (Lula) Simmons, John (Pat) Simmons, Alan (Laurie) Simmons all of Gulfport, and Brian (Carol) Simmons of Pocahontas, Arkansas; twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 11:30 AM at Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport where friends may visit beginning at 9:30 AM.
Interment will be in Conn Cemetery in Long Beach with military honors by the US Army.
