Roberta Mary (Thayer) Hill

Roberta Mary (Thayer) Hill, wife of US Marine Corps Sergeant Major (Retired) Harold A. Hill, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024 following a lengthy battle to recover from injuries suffered in an accidental fall.

Roberta is the daughter of the late Robert Ellsworth Thayer and Mary Lola (Edmister) Thayer of Beaver Dams, NY.  She was born June 23, 1940 in Cooperstown, NY. 

She is survived by her husband, Harold Albert Hill; sons, Scott Alan Hill (Marjorie Sue Spence) and Michael Sean Hill; brother, Francis Edmister Thayer of Beaver Dams, NY; grandsons, Benjamin Arnold Hill (Kaitlyn Marie Orde) of Milford, NH and Nicholas Thayer Hill (Ashley Nicole Mallet) with great grandson Hudson Thayer Hill of Athol, MA. 

Roberta retired as a budget analyst from the Naval Oceanographic Office in 2003, following 32 years of government service and settled into a lifestyle of leading and supporting her family and serving as an Elder in the Handsboro Presbyterian Church.  She and Harold enjoyed traveling and visited six of the seven continents before covid made traveling an ordeal rather than an adventure.

Visitation will be Friday, January 26, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a service at 11:30 a.m. at Handsboro Presbyterian Church, 1304 E. Pass Road, Gulfport, MS 39507.  Interment will be at 12:30 p.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery.

The family prefers donations be made to the Handsboro Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers.
