Robert J. Burr

Mr. Robert J. "Bob" Burr, age 81, of Biloxi, MS., passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 6, 2006. Mr. Burr was born on November 30, 1924, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and had been a resident of the Gulf Coast since 1989. He was a Navy veteran during WWII, served on the U.S.S. Colorado, and was awarded three purple hearts for duty in the South Pacific. He was a 25 year retiree from the U.S. Postal Service, a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #17, the American Legion Post #33 of Neenah, Wisconsin for over 50 years, and the VFW. He was also a proud member of the U.S.S. Colorado Alumni Association. Mr. Burr was of the Catholic faith and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in D'Iberville, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy J. and Blanche Davister Burr of Neenah, Wisconsin. Survivors include his wife, Melverna "Millie" Burr, of Biloxi, MS., two daughters, Elizabeth "Betsy" Burr-Shultis of Biloxi, and Faith (Tom) Viste of Diamondhead, MS., three sons, Michael Burr of D'Iberville, MS., Gary (Susan) DeBruin of Thomasville, PA., and Ken DeBruin of Biloxi, MS., seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous other family members. Visitation will be on Saturday, September 9, 2006, from 11 AM - 12 Noon, with a 12 Noon Mass of Christian Burial, all at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Ryan Cemetery in Biloxi.
