Robert Lawrence Seitzinger, Jr., age 91, of Vancleave, Mississippi passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 in Biloxi.
Mr. Seitzinger was born in Freeland, Pennsylvania to Robert and Hilda Seitzinger on December 12, 1920, and was a longtime resident of the Coast. During World War II he served his country as a pilot in the U. S. Air Force. He was captured by the Germans in 1944 and imprisoned as a POW until liberated in 1945. He retired from the Air Force with 20 years of service. Following retirement, he was employed as a computer programmer at Gulf National Bank and the Gulfport Seabee Base. Mr. Seitzinger was a member of the local chapter of the American Ex Prisoners of War serving as state commander, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry Arbutus Lodge, American Legion and a member of the Elks. He was of the Lutheran faith.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Miller Seitzinger and his son, Robert L. Seitzinger III; brother, William O. Seitzinger and his parents.
He is survived by this wife, Helen Seitzinger; daughters, Jeanne Goff and husband, Kenneth of Vancleave, Betsy Barnette and husband, Bruce of Birmingham, All; step-children, Larry Gabriel and wife, Janet of Las Vegas, Nevada, Mike Gabriel and wife, Pat of Drums, PA and Susan Siroki and husband, Leo Kratz of Gettysburg, PA; grandchildren, Kenny Goff and wife, Brenda of Vancleave, Brian Goff and wife, Pam of Vancleave, Julie Rudolph and husband, Walt of Philadelphia, MS, Preston Lamm and wife, Amy of Jacksonville, FL, Carson Lamm and wife, Melissa of Memphis, TN and Robert B. Seitzinger and Melisa of Jacksonville, FL; 4 step-grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Esther Maier of White Haven, PA and Jeanne Wacker of Venetia, PA.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 2, 2012 beginning at 11:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 12:15 p.m. at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs with Elder JoAnn Lutes of Christ Community Church of Vancleave officiating. Graveside services with full military honors for Mr. Seitzinger will follow at the Biloxi National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
