Mr. Robert L. "Bob" Maxwell, age 88, of Ocean Springs, MS. died Friday, June 13, 2008, in Biloxi. Mr. Maxwell was a native of Ocean Springs. He worked and retired as a service technician for United Gas Company, worked as a clerk in the water department for the City of Ocean Springs, and graduated from Ocean Springs High School in the class of 1935. After graduation he joined the Army Air Corps where he was trained as a glider pilot, later as a tail gunner, and turent machine gunner serving in the European Theater. He received the Purple Heart, the Air Medal with four oakleaf clusters, the victory medal and four wounded ducks. Mr. Maxwell was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Ocean Springs. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Edna Mae Evers Maxwell, sons, Bradley Karl Maxwell and Robert Lynd Maxwell II, and his parents, Carl and Myrtle Morris Maxwell. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia (Stanley) Letort of the St. Martin Community, a son, Steven Lee (Joyce) Maxwell of Saucier, MS., and two granddaughters, Amy and Courtney Letort. Visitation will be on Monday, June 16, 2008, from 9-10 AM, with a 10 AM chapel service, all at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Ocean Springs.
