Robert Christopher “Chris” Miller, age 33, of Gautier, MS was brought by his angels to Heaven on February 7, 2020, after a short battle with liver cancer and kidney failure.
Chris was born on June 10, 1986 to Robert B. Miller and Evelyn E. Cole Miller at Paragould, AR. He was a native of Gautier, MS, graduating from Gautier High School in 2004 with honors. Chris was selected to the 2004 Gautier High School class Hall of Fame and Most Likely to Succeed. He was selected to and attended MS Governor’s School the summer of 2003. Chris was also selected to and attended the National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. in 2003.
Chris’s passion was education. He loved learning and teaching those who wanted to learn. Chris attended and graduated from the following schools: London School of Economics, London, England; Harvard, Boston, MA; Mary McDonnell Barksdale Honors College (Suma Cum Laude), Ole Miss, Oxford, MS; American School of Classical Studies, Athens, Greece; and Columbia University (MA classical studies), New York, NY. In 2017, Chris started working on a PhD in sociology at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA until he became ill.
Most of Chris’s education was funded by scholarships and fellowships he earned by hard work and perseverance. While attending both Columbia and LSU on fellowships, Chris was also doing what he loved most as a professor’s assistant, teaching classes to undergraduates.
Chris was an avid reader who had hundreds of books in his library, all if which he had read. The classics were his favorites. He loved visiting museums, no matter how small. His favorite museum was the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
Chris was fluent French, Italian, German, Spanish, ancient Greek, modern Greek, Latin, and Hebrew. Learning languages was also a passion of Chris’s.
Chris was a scholarly, passionate, caring gentleman. Chris was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
Chris was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, W. Lamar Cole and Betty Cole; paternal grandfather, Robert F. Miller; and aunt, Janette Cole Jones.
Survivors include his father, Robert B. Miller, Monette, AR; mother, Evelyn E Miller, Gautier, MS; step-father, Michael Johnson; grandmother, Virginia Miller, Monette, AR; Aunts, Ginny (Gary), Pensacola, FL; Laura (Dana) Futch, Valdosta, GA; Cindy Baldridge, Monette, AR; Uncle, Bill Jones, Middlesbrough, KY; Special Cousins, Sara Kloss, Munich, Germany; Shannon Jones, Christy Jones, Austin Jones, Colton Jones, Middlesbrough, KY; And many other Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Chris also leaves behind his special cat, Leto.
A very special thank you to Chris’s nurse, Kami, whom herself was as though a specially assigned angel to Chris.
A memorial service for Chris will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ocean Springs Chapel of Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home. Friends may visit one-hour prior to service.
