Robert “Bobby” Gasper Pisarich, age 88, passed away February 2, 2021 in Ocean Springs. Bobby grew up in Biloxi, MS and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1950. He was a two-year Army Veteran, and he lived a long and accomplished life. With a career record of 67-4, Bobby was one of the premier amateur boxers on the Coast and across the State. He boxed for Notre Dame High School while still in grammar school. He never lost a bout at Notre Dame and was also a standout football player. He was recruited for boxing by South Carolina, Mississippi Southern, and LSU. He chose LSU and boxed in intercollegiate tournaments for the Tigers. Bobby won numerous AAU and Golden Glove titles in his career and was selected as the Most Outstanding Boxer at the Gulf States Golden Glove Tournament. He won the Welterweight Title in the 1955 Sugar Bowl Tournament and was pictured earlier that year in Sports Illustrated. He was inducted into the Biloxi Sports Hall of Fame in 2015. Bobby was also a talented musician and spent many years playing with his band, Charley V. and The Personalities. He will always be remembered by his family as being the picture of respect, humility and integrity. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, John and Amanda Pisarich; brother, Jack Pisarich; sister, Geraldine “Jerry” Stafford; sons, Randall Pisarich and Robert G. Pisarich, Jr.; daughter, Karen Pisarich; and very special friend and bandmate, Charley Voivedich. Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Cynthia Pisarich; sons, Joe (Belynda) and Todd Pisarich; daughters, Kim Hager and Courtney Peltier; fifteen grandchildren; ten great- grandchildren; and two very special son-in-laws that were dear to his heart, Karl Hager and Todd Peltier. A heartfelt thanks to Nicole and Colby at Hospice of Light for their excellent care and compassion for Bobby and the family. Also, special thanks to his brother-in-law, Clyde Jackson, sister-in-law, Martha Steelman and special friend, Vicki Cirino Vecchio for their care and respect they’ve shown Bobby in the recent months. “There are heroes and then there are legends. Heroes are remembered, but legends never die.” In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to your favorite animal shelter or St. Jude’s. There will be a private service held at the Biloxi National Cemetery on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. Due to COVID, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
