Robert W. "Bob" Ferguson, Jr.

Mr. Robert W. “Bob” Ferguson, 83, of Gulfport died in Hattiesburg on Sunday, October 29, 2006. Mr. Ferguson was born February 16, 1923 in Brandon, MS to the late Gabrella Hemphill Ferguson and Robert W. Ferguson, Sr. He was a 1940 graduate of Brandon High School and went on to earn a B.S. degree in marketing from Mississippi State University. He served three years in the U.S. Armed Forces and was in the European Theatre of Operations with the 65th Infantry Division, where he received the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge and the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two Battle Stars. After Army service he began a 47 year career in sale and marketing with the Office Supply Company, a subsidiary of Mississippi School Supply Company. Mr. Ferguson served on the board of directors of Mississippi Children’s Home Society, Gulfport Chamber of Commerce, Gulfport-Harrison County United Fund, Gulfport Rotary Club and was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Gulfport, MS where he also served on a number of church committees and as Chairman of the Church Advisory Board. Mr. Ferguson was preceded in death by a son, Robert W. “Bill” Ferguson. Survivors include his wife, Nell W. Ferguson of Hattiesburg; one son, Scott Ferguson also of Hattiesburg; and two grandsons, Landon and Lane. A graveside service will be held at the Florence Cemetery in Florence, MS at 2:00pm on Tuesday, October 31, 2006. Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes, O’Neal Road, Gulfport is in charge of arrangements.
