Dr. Ronald L. Brown, age 73 of Gulfport died Friday, November 9, 2012 in Gulfport. Dr. Brown was from Evansville, Indiana and attended Evansville College. He graduated from Indiana University Medical School in 1966 and served his internship at Indiana University Medical Center in 1966-1967. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1967 to 1969. He did his graduate training in General Surgery from 1969 to1970 and in Urology from 1970 to 1973. He joined the practice at Gulfport Urology Clinic with Dr. Gerald Wessler in 1973. He played lead trumpet through college and played behind many well known bands touring in Evansville such as the Diamonds and Liberace He was devoted to his patients and loved a good joke and enjoyed a yearly fly fishing trip with his friends. Survivors include his wife, Betty L. Brown; daughters, Lisa Razze (Dennis Razze) of Coopersburg, PA; Debra Holton Elliott (Steven Elliott) of New Orleans, LA; Sheila Brown of San Antonio, Texas; a son, Trace Smith of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Nicholas Holton, Rachel Holton, Jack Elliott, Stuart Socks, Emily Socks and Matthew Cherry; and many friends, patients and staff. Dr. Brown was on staff at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport, Garden Park Medical Center, Gulf Coast Community Hospital, Tulane Medical Center, and Charity Hospital of Louisiana and was a professor at Tulane University School of Medicine. He was a member of the American Medical Association of Mississippi. He was a senior member of Gulfport Yacht Club, a past president of Gulfport Rotary Club, a member of Gulf Coast Carnival Association and a Duke in 1996, a member of Les Cavaliers serving as a Duke and a member of the Kings Club. Many Christmas Eves you could see Dr. Brown wearing his Santa Claus hat ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. Although Ron was from Indiana, he considered Gulfport his home. His love for the water and the people of the Coast would never let him leave. He was a beloved character and we will all miss him. The family prefers memorials to the charity of your choice or to Gulfport Rotary Club, P.O. Box 1436, Gulfport, MS 39502. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2012 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home, 15th Street, Gulfport.
