Ruby Catherine Smith, 79, of Biloxi died Tuesday, July 8, 2008 in Biloxi. Ruby was a native of Franklin County, Mississippi and a resident of the Gulf Coast since 1967. She was employed at Mary Mahoney's Old French House as manager of Le Cabaret. She then went into the golf course industry for over 22 years. She retired from Sunkist Country Club in Biloxi with over 19 years of employment. Ruby was a former member of Billikins, Bonne Vivantes and the Gulf Coast Carnival Association. She was an avid lover of plants. Anyone and everyone was made to feel welcome when they came to her home. She was a friend to many, who will dearly miss her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Houston and Ota Stroud, her first spouse, Archie Newman. Survivors include her husband, Robert "Bob" Smith of Biloxi, daughters, Sandra (Bobby) Mahoney and Carol Newman; sister, Gerldean (Leon) Oglesby, brother, Lonnie Stroud; four grandchildren, Stacy (Gavin) Schmidt, Caty (Dean) Hulett, Trae Mahoney and Zachary Kaletsch; three great-grandchildren, Justin Hulett, Gavin Schmidt, Jr., Natalie Hulett and another little Hulett soon to be. Service will be Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at the Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes, Howard Ave., Biloxi where friends may visit from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Pallbearers are Harry Wheeler, Erik Luzius, Marshall Johnson, Gavin Schmidt, Randy Oglesby and Dean Hulett. Honorary Pallbearers are Zachary Kaletsch, Joe Anderson, Delma Cummins, Trae Mahoney, Cecil Creel, and Bobby Mahoney. Marilyn Perrine will officiate her service. Interment is in Biloxi National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Attn: Memorial/Honor Program FH, One St. Jude Place Building, Memphis, TN 38148-0552.
