Russell Roscoe Lunstrum, Jr.

Russell R. 'Doc' Lunstrum O.D. Lt/Col USAF Medical Service Corps Retired. Dr. Lunstrum was a graduate of Reed College, the University of Southern California, and the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. He was an Emaritus member of the American Optometric and Mississippi Optometric Associations. He entered military service in the U.S. Army Air Force in 1942 serving with the Weather Service through World War II. Later recalled to active duty, Dr. Lunstrum served in the Korean and Vietnam wars and eventually completed twenty seven years of military service retiring as a Lt. Col. in the United States Air Force. Dr. Lunstrum was active in the Masonic Bodies on the Gulf Coast being Past Master of Magnolia Lodge in Biloxi as well as head of the York Rite Bodies of Biloxi and the Scottish Rite in Gulfport, MS. He was a recipient of the KYCH and KCCH, a charter member of the Joppa Shrine Temple, and Director Emeritus of the Joppa Oriental Band. Dr. Lunstrum was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Biloxi recently serving as a Sunday School teacher and an active participant in many church and senior activities. He was also a decorated leader in the Boy Scouts of America. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara L. Hall Lunstrum, his father, Russell R. Lunstrum Sr., his mother, Arminta Hagar Lunstrum and his eldest son, John Eric Lunstrum. He is survived by his two daughters, Laura Lunstrum Hall of El Paso, TX and Linda Lee Richmond of Biloxi, his sons-in-law, Marty Smith of El Paso and Frank Richmond of Biloxi, two sons, Michael Robert Lunstrum and John Eric Lunstrum Jr, his sister, Betty Louise Howard of Oak Ridge, Oregon, four grandchildren, Jessica Hall, Jennifer Hall, Jasmine Hall, Christoper Richmond, and two great grandchildren. The family requests memorials to: Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital through the Joppa Shrine Temple. Shriners Hospital 3100 Samford Ave, Shreveport LA 71103. Visitation is Thursday, May 14, 2009 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Services will be held Friday, May 15, 2009, 10:00 am. Both will take place at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Howard Avenue, Biloxi.
